What’s in a name?
For a while now, we’ve been describing our sound at gigs as "Jazz Adjacent." We love the sophistication of the classics, but we have a soft spot for the modern songs that everyone knows and loves.
So, when it came time to pick a permanent name, we wanted something that captured that "bridge" between the two worlds (pun intended, Forster!).
After ignoring a lot of aggressively average AI prompts we settled on Standard Variations.
Standard — because we respect the roots, the swing, the jazz, the root of it all, and variations — because we aren’t afraid to flip a new hit on its head, add a bit of piano soul, some guitar grit, and make it something entirely new.
Expect the songs you know, played in ways you didn't expect.
